A few weeks ago I noticed that my 7 yr old tom had developed an increased requirement for water. I cought him drinking out of plant pot bases, the shower after it had been used and even the toilet. I took him to the vets who diagnosed a kidney problem, and prescribed a course of drugs accordingly. I also noticed that on occasions he would walk round and round in circles continuously. The vet ruled out anything neurological as he stopped doing it after a while. But now he has started doing it again. Does this mean he is devloping some sort of dimenture?

Check him for fleas, they get at the base of the tail and the cats will circle trying to get to them. I have seen them circle thentake off in a full run. 7 is not that old for a cat. Also 1 kidney/bladder infection does not mean chronic problems. But watch for signs esp.urinating outside of his box.

My cat was diagnosed with diabetes due to significant urinating. We put him on medicine and within 8 months... he was actually better. Cats, so my vet says, are the only species that can reverse their diabetes. It was remarkable.

FYI. The vet is wrong. Cats are not the only animals that can reverse diabetes.

Some humans diagnosed with type 2 diabetes can reverse their blood sugar problems with diet and exercise. This has been documented in scientific journal articles.

(Of course, if you've let it go for a long time, you'll have tissue damage throughout the body, which is secondary to the diabetes and that may not be reversible.)

Not only is the vet wrong, but I'm sorry, airheart6, what has diabetes got to do with this post? I don't even understand what your comment has to do with anything. The original post was about a cat with kidney issues. And it's a very old thread at that.
