My question is about the age limit if any, one can own a car . I live Georgia , so I would need to know if there is a age someone would need to be to own a car? My husband has kids and the eldest is 16 . Just got his drivers license. He bought a truck for him and now that son is legal driving age with his new license, wants to sign the truck over to him. Will he be able to do this ? We know about the higher insurance he will pay we need to know if the son can have this car turned over to him at 16, putting his name on the title?

I don't think there is any age limit on OWNING a car. Howwvwe there may be insurance issues. There may be higher insurance premiums.

Thanks for your answer but we are looking to know if the son can be on the title. The sons legal guardian telling us he ( the son ) can't have title in his name... our thought is so they don't have to put him on their insurance... long story LOL

This is about 10 years ago, but when I lived in GA, I bought my 16 year old their own car and titled it in their name. A older junker type so they were the named driver for their own insurance ( high but liability only on a older car) that way the family cars did not increase in price, since they had their own "car"

I know that a 16-year-old can't legally enter into a contract. However, I don't see why they can't own a car. You might have to make it a gift to the kid, but I've heard of families selling a family member something for a dollar in order to legally transfer ownership of the item.

I'm not sure if this would provide any protection of your assets, if the child was involved in an accident. That's a legal area that I know nothing about.
