I have a goodman a/c and the air is blowing through the ducts however, when I noticed the house was warm I found the outside fan not functioning. After standing outside I could hear a small hum for a couple seconds and nothing. The lights are dimming in the house and I believe that every time the electricity tries to run through the system it hums and quits due to something not allowing the function to turn the fan on.

I have disabled the system and was wondering if anyone would know if it may be a problem with the relay, fan motor, or condenser.

Any assistance is appreciated.

I have been having problems with electrical appliances at my residence for a few years. Things tend to get hot and melt. Just yesterday my Enegizer battery recharger burnt up and it really stunk up the place. I have had a dryer plug and outlet melt. Microwave oven light up like a lighting storm and much problems in general with electrical devices.

The furnace once had a problem and it was just the relay switch, I do not know where it is or I would check that first.

Again, thanks in advance for your consideration.

If the condensing(outdoor) fan is trying to start your capacitor is bad. Take a stick or long handler screwdriver and spin the fan. If it continues to run, replace the capacitor. If the fan doesn't run and the motor feels very warm (hot) you will need to replace the motor and the capacitor. Any time you are replacing the motor always replace the capacitor. You really need to get an electrician to check out your other problem as it could be something serious. Good Luck

We also have a Goodman a/c unit and we love ours. Do you know how old the unit is? I know that Goodman has great customer service and they offer a very good warranty on their products. Check with them to see if by chance your unit is still covered. I know that our unit is covered for 5 years parts and labor, after that it continues on another 10 years for parts only.

Check them out at: Air Conditioners, (A/C), Packaged Heat Pumps and Central Air Conditioning (AC) Units for Home Healing and Cooling Systems. Residential and Commercial Heating and Cooling Equipment by Goodman Manufacturing available in 14 SEER and 13 SEER ratings for (http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx)
When you get to their site, look at the top right hand corner for a search box to put your zipcode in. They will give you a list of certified people in your area that can probably help you diagnose your problem. They may also be able to help you find out if your unit is still covered under any warranty.

Also, call your electric company to make sure they know what your power is doing. That could really be dangerous to you and your family. Maybe they can send someone out to check on that for you.
