I bought a tractor and trailer(a little over $55,000) and went into a business for myself for almost 3 years. Due to high fuel prices and other related issues i went out of business lost all my money. Someone advised to check into how to claim some of my losses back. I really do not have a clue how to go about that

You can only claim losses up to your income. I would contact a CPA.
