I have experienced this in the past.. and I don't really know if it's a "problem", but it is incredibly intense and scary and I wonder what it is and why it happens. Maybe some of you have heard of this or has had it happen to you?

You see, it first happened when I was very young. It was like a semi-dream/ real feeling and I was watching my dream happen in my room with my eyes open. My body was paralyzed, but real sound was echoing and I couldn't talk or move. The more I tried to wake myself up, the harder it was and I felt as if there were evil spirits, demons, or possibly Satan in my room! My eyes would cross and blur and I couldn't snap myself out of this "dream" even though I was completely aware of my surroundings and my body was sweating profusely. When I would finally (5 minutes of struggling) break out of this, I would be shaking and scared.

This has happened several times growing up, and recently it started happening again. IN fact, last night I had a very intense night. It first happened when I started to doze off around 12am. I didn't think much about it, but I was afraid to try and go back to sleep because each time I was about to doze off I would go into this "mode" again. At one point after dozing off I was so scared and was trying SO hard to scream my fiance's name, because he was lying right next to me.. I wanted him to wake me up but I couldn't move and I started to panic. Finally I managed to let out a whisper, "Adam" and he luckily woke up. Once he woke up I was able to come to my senses and I started bawling. He didn't understand what was going on, and when I tried explaining it to him he didn't understand. He thought it was just a "bad" dream. I've talked to him about this before, but I never know when it's going to happen.

While in this "mode", the feeling of evil is so strong. I would ask Jesus over and over to take the evil from the room, because at least I was able to pray in this mode... but sometimes when I would pray "jesus make the evil leave" it would get worse.

There are tiny details that I am leaving out, but generally maybe one of you readers will have heard of this. I would appreciate any insight or someone who can relate... thank you sooo much!

Congrats you are able to astroproject!

Most people think that Satan or Demons or paralyzing them but the truth is that you are out of your body and that feeling of being paralyzed or held down is simply you attempting to re-enter your body. The more you fight it the hard it is because you are fighting against yourself.

Lots of people do it and have no idea that it has a name or that its nothing evil or bad. Just relax with it! I used to know a guy who said that he used to astroproject as a kid so he could watch TV after he went to bed at night! It's a fairly common so you don't have to worry about being the only one!

This is interesting/creepy. I just talked to a woman in the office I work in and she said that her mother-in-law called it White Magic and that's he was able to tell when people were going to get pregnant and different things. Do you happen to know why I feel such "evil" things?

They are not evil. Those things are gifts from God. Did Saints not have visions and hear words from God? Don't you think it's the same thing? I personally believe that anyone who has a psychic ability or anything like that has a more direct wire into the intricate tapestry of life that is woven by God. I believe god gives certain people these true gifts in order to help or simply that these people are move "evolved" then the rest of us here on earth. There is nothing evil about not in the slightest.

Wow, that's interesting because lately I have felt closer to God than before. I am checking out that site now, very interesting. I was told by a high school teacher a long time ago to "wrap myself in gold" but I didn't know what that meant. I feel so shaky thinking about this. Some people think I am crazy when I talk about it, and my doctors just say "it's a stage between sleep". But thank you SO much for everything! :)

No problem! People think a lot of my beliefs are wacky but who cares the only person who can judge me is God and I don't think he will laugh at me :)

Dear Balloon,

You are not alone... as a matter of fact it happened to me few times and I was able to go to different places I never been and describe it in details when I woke up or let's say in better words when I was able to return back to my body... the evil entities you felt when your soul were out of your body was other souls just like yours , evil entities... etc... you were scared because you are new to it... I do suggest that you pray on daily basis especially before going to bed, it will protect you from bad/evil...

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone. I have been reading different things about Lucid Dreaming & Astral Projection online, and have been trying to figure out a way to get myself into that "mode" again. You see, I really want it to happen again so I can try to experience it without being scared. Do you happen to know a way or ways to help get myself into that stage of sleep that I am really "awake"? I've read different techniques, but is there something I can do to train myself to get into that dreamlike state? I am sooooo curious about it now... Thanks for anything you might recommend and thanks for answering!

I don't really know anything about "astroprojection"
But I highly doubt its real
All of this sound like a condition many people have as kids and sometimes when they get older, night terrors.
They have meds that can help so I suggest you go see a psychologist and maybe it will help :)

Dear Balloons33,

I do not think it could be controlled... it's not a joke... so do not mess with it...

My aunt used to work for an intuitive who was able to control his ability to astralproject. Alas, I'm not certain how it was done but I suppose it can be done once you completely understand it.

Maybe now that your fear is subsiding it will be easier for it to happen

There all called HYPNOGOGIC HALLUCINATIONS. Most common from 5 to 25 years of age. They are not rare and can be associated with anxiety, stress, fear of failure etc. They are very crEEEEEEpy due to their classic vivid auditory presence and though you can't move or screem your eyes are still functioning. One way to get rid of these "half awake" dreams is to mentally challenge the intruder/s to come closer so you can touch them. Your ever increasing fear is the dreams fule and even pretending to have no fear cuts off their air supply and they run for cover. In Mexico your main meal is taken in early afternoon. The altitudes can be great as Mexico City is at 7,300 ft and at these hights the digestive process is slowed. If dinner were at 6:00 PM the number of people with disturbed REM sleep whould be much higher. The act of digestion can impact some people giving rise to disturbed sleep patterns. Good luck.

You know, I would suggest that you have a complete physical exam. Could it be you are having a seizure? I mean, the fact that you cannot move your body and cannot speak would be scary. I would just ask my doctor about this since you appear to become "paralyzed" in some way. Just an idea.

Balloons, the symptoms you're describing are precisely what had me boggled for so long as I was experiencing the same thing. It is very strange and for the longest time, my mom honestly believed it was the devil. Turns out, it's sleep paralysis. Rather than trying to explain it on my own, wikepedia does a pretty good job. You can talk with your doctor about it if it is a bother to you. Your doctor may or may not be able to give you exactly what you need but surly will refer you to a sleep expert who will be very familiar with sleep paralysis. Sudden environment changes and stress are both triggers. You mentioned a fiancé, maybe wedding plans are stressing you out? Anyway, check out this link.Sleep paralysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis)

Dear Balloons33,

I do not think it could be controled ... it's not a joke...so do not mess with it...

Ms. Redrose Through a lot of research I've done I learned that it is possible to control it in different ways. But, no need to worry, I am not interested anymore. God put it on my heart to just let the unseen part of life go on being unseen, I don't want to open myself up to anything that might be against His will. Plus, it makes me think too much and makes me nervous. But thanks for the advise!

I think your doctor is right. This is a stage between sleeping and waking. The body is paralysed by sleep but your eyes can move just like they do in normal REM sleep. You are not going "out of your body", you are just at a very shallow level of sleep.

I used to get this all the time, but now thankfully it is a rare occurrence because I don't like these dreams either. It's sometimes hard to distinguish what is real with what is in your mind. Its almost like hallucinating. I discovered that these dreams tend to happen when I sleep for longer than my body really needs. When I was younger I would get these dreams when I had a lie-in in the mornings. Sometimes if I have a nap during the day I will get them too. The only time I get those sorts of dreams in the night is when I am feeling a bit depressed or anxious, and those are usually the more scary dreams when I am scared to go back to sleep. And yes, I too often end up crying once I finally wake up because they really distress me.

Ooh one more thing I might add. If it's during the middle of the night and you are having one of these dreams try if possible not to try to wake up, doing so is very difficult anyway. Instead focus on shutting your eyes and relaxing as much as possible and you will likely just drift into a deeper sleep and probably won't remember it in the morning.

I once had an experience very similar to this too. When I was about 20, I worked a third shift job. I slept during the day. One Saturday after work, I lay down on my bed to sleep.
I started to have a dream, yet I was still awake, you know, half asleep and half awake, still conscience.. Anyway, I didn't like the dream I was in, driving in a car with friends, why were driving dangerously and too fast, so I decided to wake myself fully. I could not. I could not move, I was out of the dream, and fully conscience, that it was daytime, and that I had just got out of work, that I was laying in bed, trying to move, and get out of that state! I struggled, paralyzed, unable to move, or speak, frustrated, unable to do so! I couldn't open my eyes, nor turn over, or anything!
After trying with all my might, I heard and felt some type of explosion in my mind. Everything was like gone, like gray nothingness? I felt myself slowly being able to see and move again, the flowers on my wall paper slowly started to appear on my walls again, than I was fully able to move about again. Scared the life out of me!!
I too was afraid to go to sleep again after this. I chalked it up to not getting enough sleep being on third shift and all. Now I read that some one called this astro out of body experience.
I believe this to be the case for me. I also as a child growing up used to believe, very convincingly that I could fly in my dreams. I flew above my house as young as three. I could and still can recall what the roof of our house looks like, from being three! How can a three year old know what their roof looks like, I mean shingles, along with the additions my Dad built on to our house. I could see this as a child, from above.
The older I got, the farther away I could fly. In high school, I flew any and everywhere I went as a teenager. I loved it!

It was a wonderful free feeling. I have tried it as an adult. Not able any longer. Except only once. I flew, as an adult. When I did, I was back to the house I grew up in, I was flying over the tall tree in our front yard, in the clouds. When I went lower, I could see my two little daughters on the ground, unable to fly with me. Reaching out to them, realizing they couldn't come up there with me, I no longer wanted to fly. I couldn't see them when I flew above the clouds, and that bothered me. So from that night on, I never flew again.

Now my daughters are over the age of 19, both have moved out and are on their own.
A friend told me I was really flying, not dreaming it, and I felt relieved, as it was so very real to me. I have tried to do this as an adult, but am not able to do this any longer. I so wish to fly again, any suggestions on how I can do this once again?

This is lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis - I used to get this when I was a teenager, and apparently in most cases its do to sexual frustration, and anxieties, and repressions of yourself/sexuality.

Oh and by the way - it is noting, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the paranormal, such as demons or spirits, all that is religious mythology and nonsense. There is no scientific or medical evidence of the existence of demons and such.

The "stage before sleep" is what astal projectors call "Alpha" state. I'm not sure what the "evil" you sensed was. If there were actual beings present you can ask them to go away. Tell them to go do something else.

I often think these kind of experiences are merely my imagination, but I suppose we all feel that.

Recently I felt a presence/evil spirit following me around and one day I imagined it was actual clinging onto my back. I suddenly realized that maybe I could just ask it to go away. I asked it to go away, kindly, gave it a name, and told it to please go travel the world doing good acts and improving the beauty of the world. Suddenly I had the feeling it flew away, happy to have a purpose.

So I suspect any of us can "transmute" these bad entities, or just bad feelings, into something more positive.
