I have a 1991 honda civic. Sometimes it just turns over and doesn't start up. It is happening more and more. I can let it sit for 20 minutes and then it will start. Sometimes it happens first thing in the morning. Yesterday it quit on me while I was driving. The gas gage was low but not empty. My sons think maybe a fuel filter problem. They just put new spark plugs, distributor and rotor, alternator belt and cleaned up the battery. They are thinking fuel filter or fuel pump. Today I went to start it and it started. Next time I heard a whining like noise seemed to come from left side of drivers side. I have read on this site about main relay, and wondering if it could be this. This has been going on for about 1 year. It just has come to the point that most of the time it doesn't start without trying about 20 times. Does anyone has any suggestions? For I can't afford to take it in to shop right now. Thanks. SAm

Found the answer, even though took a while. Had to wait till the car wouldn't turn over at all. My son took a hammer and knocked lightly on the starter and it started up. So it must be the starter.
