I have a 10 hp tecumshe engine on a generator I use when things like katrina start happening.
Anyway I put it up for 2 years whth stabalizer in the gas and ran it once in that time.
The last time I started it it was gummed up.
I removed the carb. And rebuilt it but it backfires & pants, it does not run smoth
HELP,
Galen

I know this is not what you want to hear, but if you have tried to adjust it and it doesn't help, then remove the carb. And go back through it again. And check for contaminated fuel.

From my experience 20 years ago in the equipment rental business Tecumseh and Briggs, 10hp engines had the characteristics of hunting (surging)and not running smoothly. Did it ever run smooth?

It's the carb drain the old fuel in the gas tank then replace the carb that's the only way to fix it the varnished fuel is built up in the carb

Hi,
I have not had a Tecumseh carb I could not rebuild unless water and corrosion was involved. There are hidden jets that must be cleaned, low speed ones at an angle in the main jet and two or three behind that welch plug on the side of the carb (the plug must be removed, kits come with it, and the new one sealed - I use a bright fingernail polish.)
Give number and I can lok up carbs, kits, etc. or try:
