Curious to know if anyone is familiar with receiving Private Caller from a calling card. I have a calling card that I purchased about 3 years ago that I keep adding minutes to. Anytime I use this calling card it shows on the receiving side as either a 720 or a 404 area code. Just recently, this calling card was used from a hotel and the receiving side showed up as receiving a call from "Private Caller." The individuval placing the call stated that they did not select the *67 option to classify the call as private.

In summary, does anyone know if calling cards will randomly come across caller ids as private?

Yes its possible. I've had calls from people I know show up on the caller ID as Private even though previous calls showed correctly. As I've been told, this happens usually with a glitch to the system where the number was lost. It happens more frequently with calling cards because its not showing the real number being callled from.

Fredg,
Thank you for your reply. I was aware that these 720 and 404 numbers were from a calling card. What I could not figure out was why after consistently seeing the calling card come across as one of these area codes, why it would suddenly come across my caller id as "Private Caller."

The reason I asked this question, is that my husband was using this calling card to call me from his hotel. When I saw "private caller," I did not answer these calls which caused him great frustration.

I was trying to figure out why this would suddenly come across as private rather than like it normally does (for years) as the above area codes.

As he too frequently does, Fred doesn't spend the time to carefully read the question or the link he posts in answer. Had he done so, he would have found that the link did nothing to answer your specific quertion. The CallerID system is still fairly new technology and there are plenty of glitches in the system. Also, unfortunately, a lot of the benefits of the system have been negated by privacy advocates.
