Ok this is going to sound stupid especially on my part but here goes... My 11hp briggs and straton engine on my murray 38618x92c went out by way of piston rings. So I ended up getting a new head and rings and put her back together got finished late night put it back on mower well when hooking up wiring the lighting and ign harnesses were the same and were reversed so I hear a pop from key switch or battery area. I have replaced the solenoid with a briggs and stratton universal as well as the switch but the switch seems to be wrong as it is only a 5 prong and the other was a 6. tried to bypass switch to start but with the wiring info I have been able to come across haven't been able to make that work either. So I can't even see if my mower is going to start because I broke it! Anyway any suggestions on what/how to test things to make her work again would be greatly appriciated. I do have some 12 volt electrical experience as I do automotive electrical system work but do not know anything about the lawn mowers electrical system. Anyway any help would be greatly appricated.

Also any wiring diagrams with parts listings would help significantly. As far as the safety switches are concerned for them to work are they open or closed circuits and are they - or + triggers?

First off you probably shot the fuse with the incorrect ignition switch. When you replace the ignition switch there will be letters designating which male blade connector on the ignition switch goes to what. You can also shoot the diode on the charging system by installing the incorrect ignition switch.
Replace ignition switch and lets start there, o.k.

When I turn the ignition switch all it will do is click. After numerous tries it will eventually start. I had replaced the ignition switch
