I have a Westel Model 6100 Modem Router with Verizon DSL. I want to connect a Linksys 54G wireless router so I can move about the house with my laptop. The laptop works well on other WI-FI setups but I can not get the above combonation to work so am looking for suggestions for settings.

Make sure you disable the DHCP server on the Linksys. You want to only use it as an Access Point. Let the Westel act as the DHCP server.

I don't quite agree. Can you access the router wirelessly?

The secret is to put the Westel 6100 in Bridge mode and connect the Westell Ethernet port to the WAN port on the Linksys. The Linksys should provide DHCP and NAT.

Putting the Westel in bridge mode will likely require an appropriately configured Ethernet connection to the Westell and connect to it's default IP address. I have that modem, but haven't put it in service yet as an upgrade.

I don't have specific experience with the Westel, so I would give KISS's suggestion a try.

I did have a setup with a Linksys wired router and the WRT54Gs. The way I set it up was to disable the DHCP on the wireless and use the wired router for DHCP.
