Hello k:

A salary is usually paid for a period no matter how much time is put in. Wages, on the other hand, are based upon how much time is put in.

Salary is a word for the specific dollar figure you earn--"My salary is $35,000 a year." Wages is more generic--"I got better wages at X company than I did at Y company."
