Hello,
I have had my current goldfish for a few years now, They have always been perfectly healthy, except one of them has a large growth on the side of it, it has been growing for about two years now, and it really is huge. It is the normal colour of the fish and doesn't seem to affect my goldfish in any way other than it must be a big discomfort. I really don't know what to do about her, and my other goldfish who is quite a lot bigger has nothing like this atall. Has anybody experienced this before and what will happen to her? I have also noticed that veins are appearing on the lump now, and a few months ago a large chunk of the lump fell off, which has now grown back again.
Any info would be much appreciated,
Thanks.
Elly.

Hi Elly,
This is very common in goldfish.
They get cysts and tumors and it's not contagious to the other fish.
The only thing that will happen is that the fish will not live as long a life as a fish with out a tumor/cyst.
If there is no signs of discomfort, then I wouldn't worry.
I'm a little concerned about the mention of the lump falling off and growing back though.
That sounds a little bizarre.
If there is a way for you to take a pic, I'd be more than happy to take a look at it for you and let you know what I think :-)

Do you think if I posted a pic you would look also?

I have a red crested ordega (how ever that is spelled) and he has a large lump right underneath his top fin. I have just recently noticed this, and I bought two of those same fish at the same time, and the other one is still quite small, while on the other hand, the fish with the lump has grown tremendously. Is there anything I can do for the lump on his back or should I not worry about it?

I took a goldfish from a friend and it has a blueish, kind of purpleish, and white in the middle of its body the fish is still active. But when you look at it closely it has a big tumor that is purpleish blue, and around it has white ones forming it . Can you get tb from it because she just reached in and scooped it with a cup and splashed me with some water so do I need to be worried?

I have NEVER heard of someone contracting TB from a fish with a tumor...
