I'm making a short silent film that includeds Act 5 from Othello for my AP Literature class. The problem is my group and I want to put some dramatic background music. But I have no idea what to look for. Does anyone know any good dramtic instrumental music?

There are some powerful classical pieces by Beethoven that might work for you. I cannot think of any specific pieces though. I'm not sure if that's the type of music you are going for though.
However, here is a discussion of dramatic classical pieces:

Hope that helps, good luck!

I don't recall exactly what was in act 5, but I'm a fan of David Holsinger compositions.

The PLanets Suite by Gustav Holst is very nice... Mars is extremely dramatic. I like Jupiter
Gustav Holst: The Planets Suite (http://www.aquarianage.org/lore/holst.html)
**EDIT** I didn't realize those were midi... horrible renditions... here is a better site..

Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite has a storm section in it. It might work.
Wagner wrote dramatic music.
Your local public library should be able to offer ideas. Call the reference department.

Here are some other ideas for you. I would think that bits and pieces of any of them would work during either of the two scenes in Act 5.
Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns
Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by J.S. Bach
Funeral March of a Marionette by Charles Gounod
Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky
Mephisto Waltz By Franz Liszt
The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas
Die Walkure: Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner

Fan of David Holsinger, eh? Do you play in a concert band or wind band/symphony of some kind? Or, are you just a fan of his music? I'm just curious, because I rarely find people on this site who might be into the similar types of music that I am. It would be good to know who they are.

We played Havendance in my Wind Ensemble. We called that class 'the good band'. I was also in the concert band, but they didn't play many cool songs.
We actually never got to play it, because the concert got cancelled, but we did it in class for a while. I liked it, so I got into a few of his other songs, too. I only have a copy of a CD from someone with his music on it, though, so I have no idea what the names of the four songs I really like are, besides havendance.
Yeah... my taste in music. You don't happen to like Cake, Dispatch, They Might Be Giants, and Of Montreal, do you? Lol
