Well there are lots of accessories out there. You can make jewelry, hats, bags, socks, scarves, headbands.
What type of handiwork do you prefer? Do you knit? Crochet? Sew? Have you ever made jewelry?

I've never made jewelry but have always wanted to learn.
I don't know where you live. But if its in the States do you have a Michaels near you? They offer classes in jewelry making for about $15. I've been meaning to take one for over a year.

My guess however is that things like beadwork are not that difficult. My friend started making her own jewelry by just going to a craft store and buying the tools needed for beadwork and a bunch of beads. She would look at stores for inspiration then go home and put her own twist on it. She made lots of cute stuff.
If you are thinking more along the lines of actual metal pieces and stuff like that I'm not sure where you can learn that. The only one who I know who does that is one of my friends who went to Art school and it was one of her required courses.
Best of luck to you!

Make necklaces(choker) or bracelets with deifferent textiles and add a brooch type/stone/metal buckle to the middle. Or you could try different coloured yarn as the necklace with beads , brooch or metallic pendants etc.
Copper wires and hooks are also available in most craft stores, you could try your hand at making some.
For bracelets you could try stretch fabrics with beads or plastic shapes or buckles.
For neck wear you could fix the ends with a hook/s.
You could even take different coloured fabircs, twist them and tie the ends together with one or two hooks and add your choice of beads or pendants to it.
