View Full Version : Shower - sliding door - plastic flange

The plastic flange/guide at the bottom of the sliding shower door broke in half. Photo of an unbroken part attached. As a result, there is nothing to keep the door from swinging into the stall and possibly falling off the top track. The shower was installed in 2000 by a prior owner. I do not know the manufacturer. I tried several hardware stores and bath speciality shops. I tried calling the plumber who installed it. Please let me know where I can buy replacement parts. Thank you.

Maddcus, thanks for posting, I'm sure someone will find that info. Helpful.

Just so you know, however, the thread you posted to is from 2007 so don't expect a reply from Greg anytime too soon... :)

Have a good day!

Thanks, DJMIKE45, Maddcus and Mark. I sincerely appreciate the help. My brother and I have two identical showers in a duplex vacation property we own on Long Beach Island, NJ. Www.PearlOfTheOcean.com We still need the piece I asked about. A year later (August 2008), the handle on one of the sliding panels cracked. Once again, I looked for replacement piece. I found something close at HomeDepot for $11. Had to drill a hole to get the screw posts and holes to align. Sorry it took me so long to reply to your suggestions. My daughter and son-in-law presented us with our first grandchild and we have been rejoicing in that blessed event.

Try checking them out at this link:

I look at a lot but none seem to be right. Attached a picture of it (part #9). They are not very big about an inch square. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Tell you what, I'll call these guys and see what they can do for us, OK? Sometimes as a tradesman, we have a more experienced manner in dealing with this stuff... sometimes? ;)

Give me until Tuesday as I doubt they will be working tomorrow or Sunday. I will, however, give them a quick call to double check when they are open in the early AM, so check back between then and Monday/Tuesday, OK?

Glad to help!

Hi Lynn...

American shower and bath is now a MASCO company and they no longer manufacture the single hole panel guide you need... *UGH*!

I recommend that you go to a local plumbing supply store, bring the broken panel guide with you and see if they can come up with a close fit for you.

Otherwise, you should be able to go to home depot and chat with an associate or two and see if you guys can make something up... may need to get creative, but I'm confident that you can figure something out.

Otherwise, as a last resort, you can find a sheet or piece of 1/2" plastic and using a dremel tool, make a new guide yourself... :) It doesn't look like it would be too tough!

Questions? Let me know, OK?

Thanks very much for your help!
I did go to the handware store. We checked several departments but nothing that would work, Don't think I will attempt making something myself, maybe another member of my family could. It is sad that they don't have them anymore the shower is in perfect shape just the panel guides are broken. If you should come across something that would work please email me. I do not think we will be replacing it anytime soon.
Thanks again, I appreciate your checking this out for me.

Hi Lynn...

I am glad to help here! By chance, do you have the old part? If so, and you are willing to mail it to me I can probably come up with something for you.

Let me know what you think. I will also need an email address to contact you in the future, but would ask that you send it to me via private message as you don't want to post your email address publicly, OK?

Back to you...

Hi
Sorry cannot send you a part. I can send you pictures of the part if that would help. I have one that is still good. For a little piece of plastic it does a big job and it is doing it solo. Not only does it glide but it holds the door in place otherwise the door is only hanging from the top nothing on the bottom. How would I send you my email address?
Thanks again

LYNN

Hi Lynn... click on my name at the left of this post to get a link to private message me... sens email that way.

Also, I know it may not be convenient, but if you can take that old guide off and send it to me quickly I can bring it over to my people and see what we can do... a picture will not help as these are very specific.. AS YOU KNOW... ;)

Any chance you can hold the door in place for a few days or use another shower in the house... hmmm..?

Up to you...

Mark
