Okay, I know I am about the millionth person with this problem, but I had my hair lightened for the past 6 months and I just wanted to go back to all one color, so I used a permanent type medium brown and after only 30 minutes, I washed it out and my hair is now Goth Black and I hate it.

I went to Sally Beauty supply and they told me to use a 40 volume plus shampoo and leave it on for 20 minutes to lighten things up a bit. I also read on the internet that you can wash your hair with a combination of lemon juice and shampoo to lighten too dark of a dye job.

So this morning I did a strand test. I put some of my Goth Black hair into the 40 peroxide for 20 minutes and I put some more hair into pure lemon juice for 20 minutes. The peroxide hair barely looks any different at all. The lemon juice hair did lighten up but looks pretty brassy. I am actually afraid that I will hate the brassy color worse than what I have now. So I'm thinking I need to use the 40 and shampoo method, but I have two questions.

1) How much damage is this going to do to my hair, if I put the 40 onto all of my hair for 20 or so minutes?

2) What if I just washed my hair in lemon juice and did not leave it on for 20 minutes? Would it still be brassy looking?

Please don't say go to a salon. I need to take care of this myself today. THANK YOU for any help you can offer!

Well all you have to do and just wash it a few times uit will lighten up over the next couple of days and I'm sure it looks fine
