HI,

Loud Knocking, Banging Noise when Hot Water is on in Kitchen.I am returnign to a property that was a rental property. My home was built in the late 70's. No plumbing has ever been changed to my knowledge. When I turn the dishwasher on or the hot water on the kitchen sink the floor rattles, bangs, or knock. It sounds like a jack-hammer. Can anyone give me an idea of what this may be, The tenants did change the faucet on the kitchen sink, and I notice a bit of standing water in the dishwasher.

The garbase disposal is not working right now either. PLEASE HELP!!

The reason why the floorboards rattle etc when the hot water is turned on in the kitchen is because the pipes that supply the water to your place are running under the floorboards rather than along an inside wall and then up to the sink. Another reason is the water pressure , if your place has a basement or you have shut off values that you have access to you can relieve some of the pressure of the hot water system by turning down the flow of the hot water. Hope this helps...

How do I know where the shut off valves are located? Or if I have one? The pipes are under the floor boards, but why just the hot water, why not the cold water?

I suspect that the new faucet is the problem. It sounds like there is a problem with the cartridge, possibly debris or even installed incorrectly. Do you have a crawl space or basement?

Yes I do have a crawl space under my home. Why are you leaning towards the sink?
