I am starting a small Handyman business, I know I need insurance but starting out; I want as little overhead as possible. What is the minimum insurance I need to carry for a business that will be a "one man operation"? (Also, if I find I need to use other people on a temporary basis will I need to add to the insurance?

You wopuld need some level of liability insurance to cover you if you damage your customer's property. Check with yout local building dept, there may be licensing requirements that will include a level of insurance.

You can get what is called a General Liability policy. The amount of coverage is up to you... if you only get $10,000 and you do something that results in more than 10,000 in damage... your insurance company pays 10,000 and you get sued for the rest

Also if you use your truck in your work, you will need to list it as a commercial vechile. As noted the liability insurance. If you hire any workers that are employees you will need workers comp insurance also.
