Hi,

I want to Monitor my LAN traffic. The intention is to find out the reason for network slowness as well as to know who is utilizing the internet bandwidth.

One of my friend suggested to use NTOP, but the problem is that our network (in fact, most of today's network) is using switches. There NTOP is not able to find other's network usage. One option would be to use (R)SPAN. But, I feel, it will kill my network.

So, is there any other way, to monitor the LAN traffic. Or else, if any body is using the NTOP more effectively.

Your input is highly appreciated.

Thanks

If you're using an actual server as a router for the network, you can install any network monitor on that, and it should pick up the traffic. If you've got a managed switch, I don't know if it would work, but there might be a way to set it to act like a hub, either in general, or just to a specific port. I haven't worked with managed switches, but I supposed that it's possible.
