Hello,

I am looking to replace old armored cable in my attic space. The wiring shows signs of age and some of it is not the proper gauge. My home is a single family, 1 level, with an attic/crawspace. Romex is used in the entire house, except for the attic space, which is an usused "crawl space," where armored cable was used. Is this code? (I live in Westchester County, New York) Do I have to use armored cable in the attic? O,r when I replace the armored cable, can I use romex instead. And, of course protect it by running it through the studs. Is there anything I should be aware of, in regards to elelctrical code, when running wiring in an attic/crawl space?

Thanks

You should have no problems using Romex cable to replace the old BX cable. Definitely use the holes through the framing members. Keep any cable that needs to lay on top of the framing off to the side to keep it protected from someone steeping on any cable.
