View Full Version : Ceiling fan will only go in reverse

fanproblem

I just had a new ceiling fan installed (Harbor Breeze "cheshire" fan). The blades will only go in reverse (counter clockwise). I've tried moving the "reverse" button on the base, but when I do the fan stops and doesn't switch directions. Am I missing something? Please help!

Seems our ceiling fan expert is busy at the moment, probably out on his yacht for the day.

My guess is the forward/reverse switch is defective. Best to return the entire fan for a replacement.

Actually I was in my 1991 Buick which needs a new muffler.

I agree with TK's advice.

ALWAYS move the reverse switch when the ceiling fan is stopped.

It's a good idea, but it shouldn't hurt anything to reverse the fan while it's running. It's just a little harder on the motor.

AC contacts really need to snap, not slide. The slide swiches are not HP rated. Therefore they should not be moved unless the fan is stopped. Do you need a pic of a disassembed switch that I believe died because of switching while running?

No, I need you to not be rude. I've fixed more ceiling fans than you've ever seen. I've never had a reverse switch go bad due to arching.
