I thought that dogs would not pee on the bed that they sleep in. Is this just because he is a puppy or is their another answer? He is a 16 week old Shepadoodle.

All the books say they won't. Most of what I have read, doesn't even discuss eliminating in the crate. My experience has been that 7-8 week old puppies do have some accidents at first, but quickly able to keep their crates clean. Others have more trouble. If you do a search here you will find more questions about it, than reports that any answer worked. I think it has to do with poor early care, stress, and leaving the puppy in the crate too long. If you use a grid in the crates as I explain in the sticky at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/information-articles-our-dogs-expert-labman-53153.html#post251802 it reduces the mess while hoping something else helps.

I have had very good luck using one with a 7 week old puppy until it could go 4-5 hours in the daytime or overnight.

You could try the peanut butter in the Kong trick too. Make sure you exercise the puppy before putting it in the crate. I regard it as a last resort, but I have seen positive reports on medication from the vet. If you do find something works, please help others by posting back.
