Okay so me and my friend were at the mall and went into a store and stole something that cost like 6 to 10 dollars. And I got caught because my friend didn't steal from that store that I did. And it was my first time. And I'm only 13. And then so we had to call my mom to pick me up and my friend was let to go when I got arrested. The police officers took my information and filled the forms and stuff when we were in one of those rooms in the police station thing right near the mall. And my mom came and then the police officer said I was banned from the mall for 6 months and from the avenue! And so then we left and another officer took a picture of me. And then like 2 months later, I got a letter saying I have to go to court on this date and stuff and it said to bring my last report card and my current school schedule? I'm really confused.

Here are my questions:
- why do they need me to bring my report card and my current school schedule?
- will I have to go to rosedale or something? [where bad kids get sent to] but my friends told me that I can only get sent to rosedale if I did something bad IN SCHOOL. But I'm not sure.
- what will my fine be?
- what will they ask me in court?
- what is community service?

Please tell me everything you know about this situation and tell me any other information as well.
Please and thank you!!

They just want to see if you work hard in school, as for the schedule, they prob want to see if you're taking any remedial courses or honors courses, and they just want to see if you're a good kid, as for the whole stealing thing, don't do it again, it's stupid, and I'm sure that you're better than that.

You will be going to Juv court, they are not like adult courts, they will look at your home life, your school and more. They can order you to do tutoring, they can fine your parents, place you on probation or just about anything they want to do. They may order a home evaluation if they think there is something wrong with your behavior caused by your parents.

What they did doesn't make any sense at all you shouldn't have had all that stuff they did all they have the right to give you is a fine or community service especially if its your first time and you have no criminal record (hopefully) I mean I did that before and ig ot banned from the mall for a year (but that wasn't my first time lol )

Where are you getting this stuff. What happened makes perfect sense. The laws do vary from area to area but he got caught stealing. Theft is a crime!

Its likely that he will not do any "jail" time, just be put on probation for a first offense. Maybe a fine and community service (like picking up garbage in a park or stuff like that). They want to know if he is a good student to determine if he can be trusted not to steal again.

This is the issue with Juv court, often once they get involved, it will go way past the actual crime, The best thing that will happen is your parents ( both) will show up with you at court with an attorney.

The courts often want to know why you did what you did, and want to be sure that your home life did not add to it.

Also, do anyone know how community service is like? I mean, how long or anything? Because I've got school starting 5 days after the court date.

Please and thanks

My niece (14) got caught stealing.
She had to go to teen court, had 48 hours community service, and 5 days of teen court jury duty.
With the community service, they gave her a booklet with a list of different places she could work off her hours at.
The community service is basically like volunteer work.

Um Okay Tomorrow I Have To Go To Court.
I Am Freaking Out!
What Should I Do?
Can Anyone Give Me Some Advice?

Calm down and reread the advice you have already gotten. Just be respectful to the judge and show remorse and your intention to never do it again.

Ohh okayy thank you :)
But I'm not sure what remorseful means...
And also.. is community service like for certain days or anything? I don't really understand community service much.

Remorseful just means that you feel bad about what you did.

With my nieces community service, she had a form that she had to have filled out by the place she was serving her community service at.
They filled out the hours she completed and then would sign it.

She served her community service at a nursing home.
She assisted the nurses and patients.

They will assign your community service around your school schedule. It can be anything from picking up trash, working in a nursing home like Kae said, I use community service kids at my Habitat for Humanity homes I help build, working in a soup kitchen for the homeless. It really could be anything.

Ohh okay! I get it now. But what about the time and stuff? Do I have to do it at a certain time or day?

As I said above, it will be done around your school and study time. Most likely you will have to serve your community service on the weekends.

Umm don't you have a dictionary? If someone uses words you don't understand LOOK THEM UP!!

As for the community service we can't give you specifics since every court operates differently. They will be scheduled outside of school and will not interfere with school. You will probably be given a choice of where or what program to serve.

Hey! I got back! I went yesterday! It wasn't even court. It was just a little meeting. And I had to join a team thing program something like that. They said I have to do 10 hours of community service. And I did 5 today :) we went to a farm place to pull weeds. It was kind of cool. I met a hot guy there. Haha. Okay and um I have to write 2 essays. And I have to call them every wendsdays to inform them how I'm doing. I'm going back there to do community service again for the rest of it. And then ill be done. :) Thanks ALL OF YOU GUYS!!

Glad it worked out. As for the "hot guy", be careful, remember everyone on the team was there for breaking some law. The hot guy's crime may have been more serious than yours. Besides at 13, you are just at the beginning of the male/female thing.
