 I have an RCA TV that is 1 and half yrs. Old and it will not stay on a channel, the sound goes to 100 on its own and it shuts on and off by itself. RCA says tough... it is no longer under warranty. I am furious because I bought RCA because I thought it was a good brand and all they can say from some foreign land is "I'm sorry". Is anyone else experiencing this problem and can anyone tell me what my best options are? Yes I have unplugged it and changed the antenna and unplugged the DVD, etc.

First 2 likely culprits are remote sticking(remove batteries, If RF, or remove from room or batteries for IR. If that doesn't work, Buttons on TV may be problem. Any physical or liquid damage?

I have replaced the batteries in the remote, and taken it from the room. I never used the buttons until this occurrence. The buttons and the remote both work for short periods. There has been no damage to the TV on my end.

Have you positively identified remote not the problem. Working sometimes not so important as with batteries removed, the TV takes no action.

If the remote is not the problem. A combination of elevated humidity (possibly from a "swamp cooler") and dust (like pet hair) can cause this symptom. I've seen this happen quite a number of times as a TV tech. Indoor pets plus high humidity can add up to unwanted signal paths inside your TV and cause it to change channels or even turn off and on all by itself. If it's bad enough, it can eventually kill your TV! Have a qualified tech take the back off and give it a good cleaning out. Don't attempt this yourself if you don't know what you are doing!
