I recently wiped everything off my computer, and now, I can't play any games w/o it getting all choppy. I have all drivers but some multimedia driver, but I don't know if that's the reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

How did you wipe it off?
Did you manually delete the old programs, did you use the Add/Remove Programs in the control pannel, or did you re-install the OS?

Grab a free copy of CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and clean up your computer.
Defrag your hard drive. Use the built in Windows defrager or I use AusLogics (http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php).

The only thing I would add/change on his list would be to defrag last after you've removed all the junk (but that's just me) otherwise this is an excellent list.

I would also check to make sure there are no errors with your display drivers

Right click My Computer, go to Hardware, click Device Manager

They may all be LISTED but are there any with a yellow exclamation mark, or a red X?

I wiped it clean by reformating the drive, re-partioning it and reinstalling windows. I have all the drivers except the multimedia one, but I don't know if that the cause.

Installing the missing driver is the place I would start. Also make sure that your drivers are up to date.

Hehe, Im actually trying to do that. I have a post on a different thread asking for help with that driver. Evidently this multi media driver is a huge pain in the butt too. It seems that it has to do more with sound, but I hope you are right. Maybe if I get this missing driver then every thing will be OK... I hope :)

You could also try to update directx... I had a problem with not being able to load direct3d once, and my video card didn't do very well with anything else.

Also, did you reset anything in the BIOS when you reformatted? The 512MB Video card should be plenty for most games out now. With 2GB of RAM, I doubt the pagefile would be an issue...

I'm still thinking it might be with the video drivers. You might want to try to find a little older version of the drivers, uninstall the current ones, and install those. Who knows, maybe your card has an issue with sthe new drivers. Other than that, I'll think about it, but I'm not really sure where to go from here.

I haven't gotten the missing drivers and I'm pretty sure now that must be it. I had a different graphics card when I re-installed everything. I just recently changed it out, the changing of graphics cards had no effect. I just don't know what these missing multimedia drivers are are where to get them.

If you double click on it in device manager, it may have a "Details" tab. If so, there will be a list of something like PCI\VEND_1002 and a whole lot more. If you can see that, chenge the dropdown box to Hardware ID's, and look for something like this:

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0171

With just the PCI, VEN and a number, and DEV and a number. Punch that whole thing in on Google, and it will probably bring up a few pages with the name of the device.
If you don't see a Details tab, that takes a littl ebit of configuring, depending on what operating system you use.

First of all, "multimedia" is a broad category and can define a lot of different things, from video cards to sound cards, game ports and everything in between. Do you know what kind of device the driver is for?

Secondly, is it a particular game that you're trying to run that's having trouble? Or is it any 3d graphical game? If it's all games, then double check that you have the newest version of directx, which can be found at DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/directx)

Third, you can try using windows update to see if it can automatically recognize and download the driver for you. Depending on which version of windows, there are slight variations on how to do this, but in general follow these steps and you should be able to figure it out:

Right click on my computer
Click on properties
Select the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Find the problem device (which will be indicated by a yellow question mark)
Right click on the device and select update driver
From here the options vary, but in general it will say something to the effect of "Search Windows Update for drivers"

After you've done all that, let me know what happened and if the problem is still occurring we'll go from there.

I can't get any more specific because that's excactly what the device maganger says "Multimedia Driver" under the "other Devices" tree.

The only games I have played were battlefield 2142 and Sims 2. I haven't tried reloading any others, because these two used to run fine, and now they don't, so I didn't really see the point of trying any others. Although if you think it a worthwhile I will.

Windows cannot find the 2 "Multimedia Media" drivers that I'm missing.

And see if you can get to the details tab afterwards. I know I've had problems with that in the past, sometimes it isn't show by default.

If the above steps don't work, try adding DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1 under Control Panel, Syustem Properties, Advanced, and Variables (opr environmental variables, can't remember what the exact name is)

If it's just got a list of text, use this:
DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1
If it's got names like Path and SYSTEMROOT and WINDIR, with folders listed, then use this as the name:
DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS
and this as the value:
1

That is, if you do it like the link above, and it doesn't help.

That should let you see the details tab, which will show you the ID of the devices that it can't find drivers for.

Did you check with MSI for the drivers your looking for? They have a utility that will automatically download the latest drivers for your motherboard.

The multimedia driver probably has something to do with one or more features of the onboard audio adapter. Even if you have sound you could be getting it through a standard windows driver which could possibly explain poor performance. Since this is a built in adapter you will need to go through MSI for the driver.

I will also try the Motherboard drivers and up date, if that works.

I went to the website for the motherboard, and downloaded the updater. I downloaded the newest driver, but with no avail. The two ? Drivers are still? and I tried to play BF2142 unsuccessfully.

Looks like that multimedia device is a TV tuner card... philips SAA7130HL.

I downloaded the driver for the tuner. You were right. It didn't help.
