The belt that drives the mower deck on my 42" Craftsman riding mower broke. I can do minor repair work but nothing too involved. What is involved with replacing the belt and is this something I should attempt from home?

That belt is not too difficult to replace. Buy a factory belt for your mower, lower the deck and disengage the belt. Pull back on the spring loaded tensioner pulley and you can peel the belt off the engine double pulley. There are usually keeper pins to insure the belt doesn't jump off but you can still peel it past them.

ballengerb1 is correct. Buy a factory belt, not an aftermarket

ballengerb1, and esquire is correct here. Always use oem parts. They may be a little higher in price, but, unless you work on your mower for a hobby this is the recommended solution. And I have seen aftermarket parts cost the same, and in some cases even more than oem parts.

Of course I Am Female And I Have Hooked A Chain To The Craftsman Lawnmower And I Have The Two Belts To Replace The Old Belts That I Cut Off At The Beginning Of The Summer. Question Is Do You Know Of A Site I Can Find A Manual To Show Me How To Put Both Belts On The Lawnmower? I Am Desperate For A Manual For This Lawnmower.

I Hope I Am Asking A Question That Canbe Answered.

Thanks Mary
