Any thoughts on preventing rust on drywall knives? I wash the with a hose and dry them with a towel or, when available, let them sun dry. I also rub them with steel wool before use to remove whatever surface rust is visible.

But after much use the bluing seems to have eroded away leaving bare metal that despite my best efforts now instantly re-rust during use. I thought about using WD-40 or a very light gun oil but am fearful of the potential contamination it might cause to the compound.

Has anyone re-blued them with success or have another technique?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe store them in a bucket or bag with some of those dessicant (spelling?) packs? They sell them for gun cabinets, tackle boxes etc.

You Get Rust From The Mudd , It Has Water In It. And The Knives Aren't Stainless Steel Either, Mine Are Adn There More Expensive But Never The Less The Ones That Aren't Stainless I Just Use A Orbitial Sander And Sand Off The Rust, It Doesn't Hurt Anything Having Them Rust, Just Get It Off Before You Use Them , It Just Helps To Smooth It Out Better Is All.
