I have a 17 month old son:) ever since he was born I've been on the pill.my dentist recently put me on antibiotcs and failed to mention that it would affect the pill so me and my hubby took no precautions.I started bleeding/spotting earlier than my expected period. Could this be implantation or just a result of coming off the pill?

It could be one of two things: implantation or mid-cycle bleeding. Implantation bleeding is usually very scant, and is brown or pinkish. It's pretty rare for someone to experience this. Did you stop taking the pill after you found out that the antibiotics affected it... the way you worded the last sentence makes me think so(correct me if I'm wrong:)) More than likely the spotting is probably just mid-cycle bleeding from where you stopped the pill thus ceasing the hormones in which they provide. Take a pregnancy test in about 14 days, just in case. Good luck!

It could be the result of coming off the pill. Consider implantation for a moment. The fetus at that stage is called a zygote and is microscopic. Something microscopic implanting cannot cause bleeding. If this were the case we would bleed most every time we get an infection of one kind or another.
Implantation bleeding has never been proven scientifically. It is usually a form of a period if a woman is pregnant, as if she became pregnant right before a period was due.

Great advice given above :)
If you are stopping birth control you may have some spotting/bleeding or your periods may start a whole new schedule, different from when you were on the pill. You body is adjusting to those hormones, produced by the pill, being absent and your body is regulating back to normal levels.
BUT... if you don't have a regular period soon, I would DEFINITELY take a pregnancy test... my 5yr old daughter is the result of my doctor failing to inform me how antibiotics affect the birth control pill... thus resulting in me being 18, getting a cold, and a child lol :) It was the best cold of my life though ;)
