A restaurant sink compartment is 30" long and 24" wide. If filled to a depth of 12 inches, how many gallons are in the sink?
I divided 35/171 my ans. Was 2.0467 and I rounded it to 2.05 GPG dosage. I'm sure it's wrong, but I don't know what I'm doing.
How do you work the problem and show all the work on paper.

In working these kinds of problems out you have to have a "stream of thoughts". Where (the hell) did you pull out 35/171 from? I am staring at the numbers here and cannot find any way for you to divide 35 by 171 and think of it as an answer to THIS problem.
You have a sink. It's X" wide, Y" long. Water is Z" high in it. How many gallons are in there? I don't know how to convert cubic inches to gallons, so you'll have to do it, but I'll give you my " high in it. How many gallons are in there? I don't know how to convert cubic inches to gallons, so you'll have to do it, but i'll give you my ".
It's a sink. There's water inside. Water is in a form of a 3 dimensional "rectangle".
It's a sink. There's water inside. Water is in a form of a 3 dimensional "rectangle") is X * Y * Z.
So the volume of water in the sink is X * Y * Z cubic inches. Now all you have to do is convert cubic inches into gallons.
