I hope I am in the right area. I just wondered how I go about obtaining a business licence and VAT number for the business I am starting up.

I want to stock an online store but most wholesale companies want to have my VAT number or business licence number before I can deal with them.

It probably sounds quit naïve of me, but I figured I would trial the site before having to deal with this side of it and I'm hoping that to register for all this it won't cost loads as I don't want to invest too much this early in the day in case it doesn't work!

A business license, you go down to city hall, pay them their fee and they give you a license. Takes about 30 min, the fee depends on the city, type of business and expected gross sells.

I have no idea what a VAT number is, there are state and federal tax numbers, there is EIN numbers. ( in the US)

Thank you for your help, I should have mentioned that I was from the UK so I think the proceedures are different here!
