View Full Version : What does this pain mean?

Left side of the abdomen(stomach ache), with headaches on one side of the head.
Could this be connected to stomach ulcers, if not what else are the possibilities?

Has anyone experienced this, what was the diagnoses?

The person who has this problem is getting medical help at this moment, but if you have information on it, I would really appreciate it, thanks all!:)

The symptoms are too vague to tell.

Need much more details

Fever...

When does this happen? After certain foods, exercise, empty stomach...

Been exposed to anything recently...

Past medical history is important also.

No fever
He was diagnosed many months ago to be having a stomach ulcer and was recommended a diet without oily, hot foods
Being exposed to anything (I don't think so)-as he wasn't ill at the time the stomach aching started.
And doctors have done a scan and things but they don't really see any problems as far as I know
Could kidney/bladder stones cause such pains?

This sounds more like gall bladder to me. Especially with the diet recommended. Could even be pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), according to the food restrictions.

Bladder would be down lower in the middle and kidney would be in the back.

You don't specify where on the left it is upper or lower quadrant.

Then it wouldn't be gall bladder. Prostate been checked recently?

I would go to webmd.com and use the symptom checker there it may guide you to some possibilites.

Thanks for the link,
As doctors are checking up and leading to a diagnoses, I just wanted to confirm if my doubts could be cleared.

And with J9 here, I just needed to discuss to put my mind at ease that it wasn't anything as bad as it seems.

The webmd link is pretty good. I have had about a 35/65 success rate, so I don't take it all that seriously, but I sometimes do use it.

What is his age if you don't mind?

What have the doctors said so far? Anything else than you have already said here?

He is 19 years old, and the doctors haven't really given a confirmed diagnoses, they said that they need 2 more days to give a final diagnoses, meanwhile he is on medication (I don't know the details of that though).

This afternoon, the pain he said wasn't as bad but around evening (right now its midnight 2:20 here by the way) the pain got worse. At the moment he is sleeping.

Okay, that would most likely rule out prostate.

Just out of curiosity does he consume a lot of caffeine as well as dairy?

Does any of this seem familiar to you?

Renal colic is the term used to describe the pains associated from kidney stones. It has been likened to childbirth because of the excruciating nature of the pain.

* Pain

O Stone pain is sudden, severe, and sharp when it begins and later will come and go over time as the stone moves.

O The location where pain is felt is largely a result of where your kidney stone lodges.

O You may feel pain in the lower portion of the back or in your flank on one side. Frequently, it will shoot toward your groin on the same side.

O It may become very difficult for you to find any position that is less painful, no matter how hard you try.

O Usually, people with kidney stones will be seen pacing about or moving all around on the bed.

* You may feel sick to your stomach, and most people will vomit.

* You may be cool, clammy, and sweaty with a pale appearance to your skin.

* You may or may not notice any blood in your urine during these symptoms.

* Depending on the location of the stone or any infection in your urinary system, you may also notice burning with urination or more frequent urination and the need to go hastily, with only small amounts of urine resulting.

He hates coffee (I am not very sure about his intake of tea or carbonated drinks) and he has to be forced to drink milk.
And about urinary stuff, the doctors did a test and they said there was nothing showing on the urine.

About the positions of pain moving I will have to ask him when he wakes up.

But he is not clammy or pale as far as I could see when he has these pains.

And he normally lies one way (on his back or on his side) most of the time and I am guessing that it is his comfortable position during the pains.
