View Full Version : Kitchen sink only dispenses hot water

Hello,

I came across this helpful site when trying to find somebody who had a similar problem.
My problem is my kitchen sink dispenses only hot water after 2-3 minutes. I can't get cold water unless I turn it off for 30+ minutes. It is a problem that I just haven't gotten around to fixing and the problem has existed since they renovated these units into condominiums.

My kitchen sink has a single lever for opening the faucet. When I lift it to the right (cold water side), cold water is dispensed but after a couple of minutes, it becomes hot and stays that way unless I turn it off for 30+ minutes.
To try and locate the problem, I turned off the hot water from underneath the sink and turned on the faucet. It started lukewarm but eventually became hot and stayed hot. I then disconnected the hose connecting the sink to the cold water source. I turned on the cold water source underneath the sink and directed the hose to a plastic container. This resulted in hot water again. This is appearing to be a bigger problem than I might be able to fix. I tried the same with the hot water source (hoping they just switched the hoses) and got the same results. I would greatly appreciate any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Phillip.

The renovators made a mistake somewhere. It sounds like they plumbed in the hot supply to the cold line that goes to the kitchen sink.
