My wife just recently lost her job and now we are both unemployed. They let go 102 people at her work. We are now wanting to see if we can get out of our lease early in Florida? We had to pay first and last months rent up front, plus deposits for our pets. Will we get them back as well? Also, our landlord did not get approval from the Homeowners Association before renting to us. They are not very happy with him at all. I found out that the previous tenants got out of their lease early as well. What are our options? Thanks...

What does your lease say? That will give you the most information.

Sorry to hear about the unemployment. The best thing to do is talk to the landlord. They might let you leave but pay rent until the apartment is rented.

A lease is a contract. You cannot get out it without the mutual consent of both parties.

This is gillwint again. One thing I forgot to mention was that the Homeowners Association sent us and the landlord a certified letter stating that the Board of Directors was going to set up a hearing on the subject of the renewel and/or extension of the existing lease. Reason for this was that the landlord did not get approval from the Homeowners Association to rent the property out again. In our lease agreement it states that the Tenant must be approved by the Homeowners Association. Landlord and Tenant agree that the lease is contingent upon receiving approval from the Association. We knew nothing about this because he did not get approval first. We moved in on January of this year and received the letter from the Association in July. Thanks...

If you have a follow-up you should reply to the previous thread not start a new one. I'm requesting this thread ber merged with your other one.
It sounds like the HOA can void the lease solving your problem.
