We have a serious crabgrass problem this year.
Is there anything we can do right now to kill it and prevent it from germanation next year?

There are weed killers that will kill crabgrass and not your lawn just make sure it is safe for your type of grass. Put down a crabgrass preventor early next spring and you should be fine. All of this stuff is available at your local hardware store and a clerk should be able to point you to it.
