Can anyone help me out on what this pain is? I went to the doctor yesterday, I'm 40 weeks along. I can't even walk as of this morning with out pain in my groin area. It doesn't hurt when I sit, but if I lay down, stand up, or walk, it's so sore. I have been having erratic contractions for 2 days. I'm not sure if I'm just gearing up for labor or what, but I'm just in constant pain. Any help would be awesome.

This pain happens when the baby's head begins to descend into the birth canal. If you have not begun to thin and dilate, you will very soon. It is perfectly normal.

Congratulations!:)

If you are still reading this, start counting the time between contractions now. If they are 10 minutes apart or just under, call the dad unless he's with you right now, pack the bags, and go for a nice long walk in the mall closest to your hospital. As my hubby told me "let's work her out!" Even if contractions are erratic, if they are less than 10 minutes apart and range between 2 and 5 minutes most of the time, you are beginning actual labor and should call the ob, call the dad, pack the bags, and go to the hospital. If they are closer to 10 minutes apart but getting stronger, call your ob. S/he may want to check your cervix or may tell you to go to L&D. You can go into labor at 10 minutes apart if they are strong, and if you are dilating, they may want to induce you.

You are about ready to be a mommy! YAY!
:D

Did the doctor tell you how far you were dilated, effaced and what station the baby was at? This info will help you to know how close you are getting, however, it doesn't tell you exactly.(I was only at 1 centimeter when I went in at 40 weeks, my doc set up a date for an induction, but I ended up in the hospital that night at midnight in labor, almost 5 cent.dilated, and contractions right on top of each other.) The pain is from the pressure the baby's head is putting on your cervix. Most likely you will be in labor within the next 24-48 hours, however, like all baby's, every labor is different, so just count your contractions, how long they last how far apart they are,etc and get in at the appointed time your doctor has told you at your previous appointments. Make sure you are still drinking a lot of water too. Good luck to you!! You're almost done with pregnancy, and will be holding that baby soon.
