I get a foul odor when I run the water only in the upstairs bathroom and when I'm doing laundry I can't tell if it's the water or the drain

Does this happen with straight cold water or just warm/hot? Put some warm water in a bucket and take it outside to see if it really is the water, could be the drain. Back to you.

Juan, give this home brew a try. Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/2 cup table salt, mix and dump into the sink drain and then add a cup of vinegar. Allow to sit overnight and flush with a bucket of hot water. Come back and tell us if your odor id gone.

Yes it would help the washer too. Are you hearing any gurgling noises when you drain water? I am wondering if your veny may be blocked. I sthe odor sewer gas?

I tried the mix last night and it seemed like the odor went away.I did notice that when I
Dumped the bucket of hot water down the sink about 3-5 seconds later I heard a knocking
Sound coming from where the toilet is it seemed like it was coming from the floor. The vent going through the roof is in that same location above.I heard the noise before but thought
It was air in the water lines the water wasn't running when I heard this morning just the water going down the drain.

Good job, I think you got it. The knock may be a vent stack that is becoming blocked. If you keep getting a gurgle noise when the water drains or sewer gas odors you may need to rod out the vent from the roof.

Vents can clog from many sorts of debris such as leaves or even a dead bird. In cold weathger the birds like to sit on the vent because it is venting warm air.
