My four yr old cat has been coughing for about a week and a half now. At first I thought she was working on a hair ball. But that's not it. Now she has these coughing fits, sometimes thirty or forty coughs in succession, making it impossible for her to breath. She even claws at the air while it's happening. Eventually she gets something as white as milk come out of her nose and clear stuff (saliva?) from her mouth. It is NOT FROTHY. It looks more like white glue straight from the bottle. Once she gets a little bit out, she calms down and is fine for awhile. Any ideas??

This sounds like an upper respritory infection that has settled in her lungs. She needs antibiotics if this is what she has, because it can turn to pneumonia if not treated.
