Hi,
I want to have playtime with my hamster but what do I do to stop the hamster escaping? Also how do I get her back in bearing in mind she won't be held and she doesn't come to me. Im nervous around her but I want to play with her. PLEASE HELP!

p.s what should I use to play with her, what sort of toys?

If I were you, I'd start by playing with the hamster in the cage. Just put your hand in the cage (standing on a chair may make this more comfortable for you) and leave it there, lying on the bottom. Don't move it around or grab for the hamster. She may run away at first, but sooner or later she is going to come over and start investigating you. Do this for a while, and start giving her treats and petting her while she is in your hand. Then you can start raising your hand up a little bit... not too high. You want her to be able to jump down into the cage without getting hurt if she gets scared. Continue to give treats and pets. (At some point you may want to incorporate a command like "come" or "up", so that she will hopefully start to associate the word with coming to you for pets and treats.) Once she's comfortable with that, keep raising your hand higher. Eventually you both should feel comfortable enough that you can take her out and play with her. Although I don't know what sort of "playtime" one can have with a hamster, besides letting them crawl all over you and run around in the hamster balls. It's not like they play fetch! (although I am sure that several people will now chime in telling me that of course they do)
