Well, 2 questions... what if I do have one an STD? I don't have insurance or money so what do I do?

Go to Planned Parenthood. They're really good about working with you on a sliding scale, so you will get help at a price you can afford.

If you have a Planned Parenthood nearby I'd go to them. They offer gynecological services on a sliding scale and can usually offer medications at a discounted rate. You can usually get in pretty quick especially if you think you have an STD but expect to wait in the waiting room for a while (at least that's been my experience).

If there is not planned parenthood nearby, which I am sure there is, your local health department can help you. But cannot, and I stress STDs CANNOT be left untreated. Syphilis for one can infect your brain if left untreated and can cause psychosis and dementia.

Syphilis has three stages: Primary, Secondary, and the Tertiary disease stage. There is a long asymptomatic period between secondary and tertiary Syphilis called the latent or "hidden" phase.

Tertiary Syphilis occurs years after the initial infection. It is of note that the transmission of Syphilis can occur to a fetus even during the latent period. Tertiary Syphilis may have one or a combination of various disease manifestations in the body. These manifestations include asymptomatic, brain/spinal cord fluid (meningovascular), spinal cord posterior columns (tabes dorsalis), and heart/blood vessels (cardiovascular).

The primary danger of Tertiary Syphilis is that it can result in permanent damage to the brain, nervous system, heart or large blood vessels (e.g. the aorta inflammation or an aortic aneurysm). Tertiary Syphilis can affect the skin, skeletal systems, eyes, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract (as well as the cardiovascular and central nervous system).

So, I suggest you get it checked out if you think you have one.

****EDIT**** I don't know if this is the STD the OP is talking about, I am just trying to show the importance of getting it checked out immediately.

Even if you have to pay, scrounge up some money somehow.

What is a bigger issue? Borrowing money? Or having what J_9 described happen to you?

I'd definitely be borrowing some money if need be.

First of all you need to get tested and treated, and then you need to inform everybody you've had sex with within the last couple of months (a doctor should tell you exactly how long) and tell them to get tested as well.

And last but not least two words of advice: use CONDOMS! They are much cheaper than doctors and far less unpleasant than penicilline injections.
