When on probation the curfew is 8 p.m. every night. Now does this mean if I am home at 8 I can leave my house at 12 a.m. because that is the beginning of the next day?

Ask your probation officer. If this is just an idle question, I will call one in the morning and let you know then.

Hello jr:
Officially, you're probably right. But, probation officers aren't too bright and I doubt whether they'll see the logic in your argument. Therefore, I don't care if midnight is the beginning of a new day, and I don't think the po will either.

I'm sure the curfew will apply until sunrise the next day, the idea being to keep you indoors at night.

You are required to be in at 8 PM. There should be a corresponding time when you are allowed to leave, say 6 AM or something like that. A curfew order is pretty worthless otherwise. However, I seriously doubt that, in the spirit of the law, any judge would buy your argument, even though it may be technically correct. Trying to find such "loopholes" where the conditions of your probation are concerned will only cause more problems for you in the long run.
