I was just wondering I am going to start schooling for becoming a nurse to work on the labor and delivery floor of hospitals well I was wondering after you do so much of your schooling can you start working at hospitals doing only certain things?

You could probably look into becoming a nurses aide while you're in school. I worked as one and got to spend time in labor/delivery. Your training will send you out to experience different areas which will help you make contacts. Volunteering is also a possibility.
Also, your school will cover this once you get started.

At least in my state you have to have successfully completed your first 2 semesters in the nursing program to be a Nurse Extern. However, there are Nurses' Aides as well as Nurse Techs that you can do prior to admission the nursing program.
The duties vary. As a Nurse Extern you will be able to do the routine procedures that you have learned in school. However, as a Tech or Aide you basically do only vitals, baths, linen changes, etc.
