Installed a new ceiling fan a month ago. Everything was working fine (except for the excessive noise when fan was rotating at a slower speed). Last night the highest speed setting was not working, medium was working fine, low was working fine. The highest speed setting was rotating at the medium setting. Walk into the room this morning and it smelled as though the motor may have burned out, the motor casing was warm/hot to the touch.

Any ideas?? What would the cost be to have a dimmer switch installed to avoid the excessive noise with the motor at a lower setting?

Thanks in advance.

Jack

Doesn't this have a warranty? I would return it. Motor should last for several years. As for the vibration, fan should have come with some weights to install on blades to avoid this. I would not recommend putting dimmer switch on to slow fan down. This is what you have 3 speeds for. Good Luck.

Dimmer switch will cause noise (and damage the motor), not reduce it. What make fan is this, and what sort of control are you using?
