You MIGHT be thinking of the 2005 Japanese movie Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475723/), which definitely features a character who can assume the faces of others and who has a battle in the forest. Another character has tentacle-things that emerge from his sleeves. I believe there was also a chain-blade.
