When I first got my period, it came in alternate months but became normal after a while even though I would miss two months or more(spread out, not one shot) of period in a year. I have never gotten my period in every 12 months before. WIthin a year, I'm sure to miss at least one month of period and get stains/light flow occasionally. But I guess this is considered normal since hormones change and everything.

I'm 20 now and this year is the weirdest. I missed my period in January and in feb it came normally. So far, normal stuff. But since feb till now, it's been abnormal. In Mar & Apr, my period was blackish and the flow was very light. I was worried because it was black 2 months in a row. In May, I was so relieved when my period came and the flow was more normal, although it was a darker colour of red, possibly because the previous months' were black and I thought maybe it was darker because it was shedding off what it didn't shed for 2 months. ANyway, when I thought my period was back to normal, last month it came as stains and is the same for this month. Light brown stains I just need to use a pantyliner. And it's not consistent. Just lasts for 3 days or so. I'm getting really worried as this is the most abnormal period I've had in a year before. In 7 months, I've only gotten 2 months of normal flow! I don't take birth control pills or have sex or etc, so I don't know what's the cause for this. It might be stress but I doubt stress would cause irregular flow for so long! And its not like I stress for 5 months in a row. I thought it would be back to normal this month but it still comes as stains. It sucks to wait for the next month just to see if it's a normal flow or not and if it isn't, I get more worried!! Please help! Answers would be very much appreciated.

*sorry for the long post

Its got to be frustrating, but it can take years to get "normal". Even when you think it could have leveled off, maybe it really hasn't. A doctor might actually put you on birth control to help your periods become more regular.

At 20, you should be having at least semi-regular periods. It sounds like its time for you to go to the doctor to discuss prescriptions and hormone therapy :)
