Hello,

Our Kenmore Catalyst Wahing Machine won't drain... it stopped after the wash cycle. We ran the diagnostics according to the repair maunal, but how do we know if this a problem with the solenoid valve or the pump?

Thanks!

Will the unit go through the spin cycle? If not check the lid switch for continuity. Many units drain in spin cycle as well. If it spins and switch checks out OK, the pump or belt is bad. Good Luck

Hi, Doug,
Thanks. I used the cycle with the Catalyst option, so it went through the spin cycle at the beginning of the wash. Then it just stopped. No error codes. The washer was full of water that appeared to have detergent in it, so I don't think it ever drained at all even to go through the rinse cycle. We did check the lid switch and it is fine. I didn't communicate my initial question well. It seems like it may be the pump, but have you ever heard of replacing the solenoid coil?

Yes, The solenoid could be bad. Do you have a multimeter to test with? How did you check the lid switch? Try jumpering around the lid switch and running just to verify. The unit fills and agitaes, correct?

For the lid switch, we ran ohm meter with power off, there was conductivity. Also tested it w/ power on, worked fine. The unit did fill and agitate, then just stopped when it was time to drain.

Thanks

Do you hear the motor running or any other noises ath this point? Have you tried advancing the timer at this point? Check the solenoid for continuity.Check the belt as well.

If the motor is running when the unit stops, unplug unit and turn the pump with your hand.I would also check for voltage to the pump. Does it turn smoothly. If it doesn't the pump is locked and will need to be replaced. Also there is a coupling between the motor and the trans. If themotor is running but no action I would check this as well. I know, a lot of testing, but necessary to locate problem

There is no motor running, just the usual click when the lid is opened and closed. So we'll check the other things tomorrow. Thanks so much!

Also check for power to the solenoid. Open the control panel and as you re looking, turn timer and make sure the contact are making in spin cycle.
