My DVD-Rom doesn't work.

I come back from work last night and I wanted to watch a movie. I insert the DVD, but it was impossible to play it.
I checked the system information and there is no information about DVD-Rom. The laptop acts like there is no DVD-Rom on it. There is no icon, and there is no chance to play something.

Thank you

Make sure that your dvd drivers where not uninstalled by any chance. If they where uninstalled download new drivers here (www.driverguide.com)

benn11 could be right :) since there is no icon showing if there is a DVD rom present in the drive. Check if it was uninstalled or not.
Other suggestions could be that the DVD rom was internally out of place from the laptop but it was majorly impossible.
Other possible problems(listed by priority):
1.) The DVD you were trying to play is-
-full with dirt(clean with something soft and not rugged then play it again)
-scratched
-damaged
2.) The components inside the DVD rom are damaged.
