We have had a ceiling fan in out family room for years. One day the fan just stopped working but the lights continued to work. We assumed the motor on the fan burned out. My husband recently put in a new Hampton Fan and when we tested it the lights worked, but the fan turned for a second then stopped. I was hoping someone would know why this would happen? Thanks for the help.

With no testers, you could hook up fan wire at ceiling to light wire. If light still works, fan has power, try pull chains and switch. Cap disconnected fan wire while testing, keep loose wire safe. At that point. If it still doesn't work, Remove switch housing look for disconnected wire at fan speed and direction switch, or Capacitor.
Then test those parts or replace fan. It still may be no power to fan wire, and fan OK.

First of all, what make/model was the old fan? Picture will suffice if you do not know.
How was it controlled? How is the new fan controlled?
Do you have a volt meter or tester?
