I have an old pool that needs to be removed, it has about 2 1/2 feet of murky dark water, my wife seems to think that this old pool water possibly has chemicals or something else that is a hazard to our drinking water. Is this accurate, and how would folks suggest removing old pool water. My suggestion is too just drain it out onto the ground?

Not knowing what is in the 'old pool' water and you want to get rid of it, it should be treated as a bioharzard and pumped out.
Is this an old in ground pool ? Or an old above ground pool? Either way, I think you have to have the water tested and pumped out and disposed of.
If you wife is worried about your drinking water, why would you want it drained out into the ground if you don't know what in it??

If it was me... I wouldn't worry about it - I would pump it out onto the ground. Your pool has collected rain water that has laid stagnant, and is now filled with algae. Shouldn't be any problem. Ironically - the reason the water is murky is because it doesn't have chemicals in it, not because it has too many chemicals.
