I've heard of car auctions and the great deals that can be had. But, as I understand it, you must be an auto dealer in order to take advantage of these great deals. So how would one go about becoming a dealer? I mean, is there a class you have to take or what? Or are there maybe persons out there who, for a fee, act as "brokers" (for lack of a better term) for individuals who wish to purchase through an auction? And if so, how much should one expect to reasonably pay for such a service? What's the angle? I'm operating on a fixed income but must have a new truck. Not actually "New" new - just new to me. You know what I mean? Can you help a girl out with a hook-up?

First no, not all auctions require you to be a dealer.

Second, there are a lot of online auctions, for example cars and trucks that have been taken for DUI, or by Game and Fish people often are sold at auction on the internet

For example here is the one for here in TN where I live

Tennessee Department of General Services (http://www.tennessee.gov/generalserv/ba04s/pauction.html)

But each state will have its rules as to how to become a dealer, most will require a dealers license, a bond, insurance, a specific office not connected with another business and some other requirements, normally it will take 4,000 to 10,000 dollars to become a dealer ( before you even buy any cars)
