My shower spout has been leaking for months, and has gotten worse. I took the face plaste apart to tighten the knob, but the leak has not stopped. Can you tell me what else I can try to stop the leak. :)
Thank you,

The knobs are attatched to a stem. Sounds like the washer on the stem has worn down, and the stem needs to be replace. Don't forget to replace the seat behind the stem if there is one.

I hate to ask this, but what is the stem. I know when I removed the plate there is a green plastic plate blocking the pipes behind the wall.

The stem is what the knob turns. Take off the knob, and see what it's attatched to. That should be a stem. Is there no way to remove the green plastic plate?

I will need to cut it out. That is the only way I can get to the pipes.

The green plastic plate is a rough in plate and should have been removed at trim out, it is secured by two screws You have a single handle tub and shower valve. This valve has no stems, seats or washers but has a cartridge instead. Turn off the water to the valve and remove the cartridge. Check the inlet ports for trash or blockage. Before you button up turn the water back on for a moment to flush out the supplies and valve body. To tell you more I will need the name of the tub and shower valve. Good luck, Tom

The shower valve is a Moen.
